What’s purple and delicious that’s popular among Filipinos?

Grimace? I don’t even know what Grimace is supposed to be (nor what it tastes like… nor if it’s popular). I’ll pretend that I didn’t mention it in the title. UBE!

(read more about it here)

Ube, known in English as purple yam, is a tuber that is made into a variety of sweets in the Philippines. You can see it as candies, jams, cakes, and ice creams. Lately, it has found its way into the Filipino breakfast staple – the pandesal.

I’ve caught the ube cheese pandesal craze quite late but boy did it hit me hard. I have been trying different versions of it since the start of the community quarantine and I have decided to rank my top 6 (I have tried more than 10) based on the ube, cheese, and the pandesal itself.

I love Sundays. One of the reasons why is that I can have lunch with my family on that day.

Two weeks ago, my brother asked me if I wanted to eat at Melo’s. My sister gave her a Melo’s gift certificate worth 1,000 PhP last Christmas and it was about to expire. Of course, I said yes. He reserved a table for two (reservation is needed) on a Sunday.

It was a nice and sunny Sunday. We decided to take an Uber to Burgos Circle than bring a car for convenience’s sake. Continue reading →

I traveled to Kuala Lumpur quite frequently last year and did my best to avoid Malaysia Airlines. Why? Let’s just say I was scared. I often ended up flying with Cathay Pacific which necessitates a stop in Hong Kong. What were supposedly 3 hour 45 minute flights became tiring 9 hour journeys.

So on my last visit to the home of the Petronas Towers, I chose to fly with Malaysia Airlines. My mom and siblings asked me to cancel my trip when they found out I booked with the airline but I told them not to worry. I’ve read many unpleasant stories about Malaysia Airlines but I decided to give them a try anyway. Continue reading →

Where have I been these past few months? Or better yet, where have I been this past year (or two)? Around. Pretty much around. My life has been very busy recently hence the infrequent journal entries.

Moving on… I just came back from the United States. It was my first time to step on American soil and I had a great time. One of the primary reasons of my visit was to attend my brother’s graduation from the Master of Laws program of Yale University. Yale Law School, by the way, is regarded as the number one law school in the world.

Yale Law School Commencement. This was after the university rites held at the Yale Old Campus.

We spent quite some time appreciating the campus of Yale University. The buildings were grand, charming, and full of history. Walking around the area was surreal, almost like being in a movie. It had a vibrant, old-world charm to it that I loved. Continue reading →

Much has been said about Bangkok, the bustling capital of Thailand, which is considered as the world’s best city by Travel + Leisure magazine. Whether you’re into shopping, partying, or sightseeing, the Thai capital has got you covered. Bangkok’s a great example of modernity mixed with traditional culture.

Cruising along the Chao Praya River, the birthplace of Bangkok.

Exploring Bangkok involves a lot of walking, train rides, and river cruises. It’s easy to get around the city since their modes of transport are well-integrated with each other. Also, the sidewalks of Bangkok are usually wide which is great for exploring the city on foot. In the shopping districts, such as Ratchaprasong, there are skywalks similar to Ayala Center’s. … or Welcome to Kuala Lumpur in English.

My sister purchased Cebu Pacific promo tickets way back in February and after months of waiting, my sister, her boyfriend Arman, and I finally flew to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. I’ve been wanting to visit Malaysia ever since I saw their Malaysia, Truly Asia tourism campaign which, in my opinion, is at par with our WOW Philippines campaign. It made me curious as to why they claim that their country is Truly Asia.

We arrived in Kuala Lumpur half an hour past 1 in the afternoon, 20 minutes ahead of our scheduled arrival. I knew that we’d be going through the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport so I didn’t expect much from the terminal.

No jet bridges here given that it's an LCC Terminal. We could emulate the LCCT concept given the rising popularity of LCCs here in the Philippines.

A random thought that popped into my head was the time zone Kuala Lumpur was in. When we landed in KL, the flight attendant announced the time and told us that there is no time difference between it and Manila. If you check the map of the world, KL is farther than Jakarta from Metro Manila and yet the time in Jakarta is an hour behind. I wonder why… Continue reading →

Yesterday, my office friends invited me to try out Cravings‘ Unlimited Coffee and Cakes promo in Eastwood Mall. For 150 PhP, you can stuff yourself silly with coffee and cake. Though I am currently on a diet, I gave it a go since we hardly see each other and it has been weeks since I last had cake.

Looks enticing, isn't it?

I had high expectations from the cakes of Cravings. On the way, I couldn’t help but feel excited because the last time I ate in Cravings, I was really satisfied with the quality of their food. I even got more excited when a flier of the promo (same as the photo above) was handed to us as we entered Eastwood Mall. The Snickers Caramel Cake sure looked delicious. Continue reading →
