Roughly as year ago, the fast food scene in Metro Manila was abuzz about a novel offering from one of the biggest chains. KFC introduced the Double Down last November 2010 and injected a lot of hype into it. The Double Down is a sandwich made out of two thick chicken fillets with a cheese slice and bacon strips in between. Their marketing was simply superb; the Double Down was always sold out in KFC branches. I had to wait for three weeks before I was able to sink my teeth into one.
Was I impressed?
No. The Double Down was extremely salty. I am not sure if it was just because I have a sweet tooth or it was just really salty. Needless to say, I was disappointed and I never ordered it again. A few months passed and the Double Down’s gone from KFC’s menu.
When we went to KFC yesterday, I was surprised to see that the Double Down’s back. This time, they’re using the Zinger fillets. I just had to try it! I’ve been a fan of KFC’s Zinger ever since I first tried it out. I didn’t think twice even though I knew that it could be a salty mess again.
Again, was I impressed?
No. It was still really salty. I even ate it with rice to reduce the overall salty taste but it was still to much for my tongue. The good thing about it is that it is spicy, just the way I like it. That would probably be the last time I’m buying the Double Down. I guess I’d be sticking with my usual large Hotshots plus extra rice order.
